Boyz II Men Evolution Full Album Zip is the debut album by R&B group Boyz II Men. Released in 1991, it helped establish the quartet as one of the most popular acts in music with successful singles including "Motownphilly", "End of The Road" and "It's So Hard To Say Goodbye to Yesterday". The album peaked at number one on the US Billboard Hot 200 chart for six weeks, selling 10 million copies and staying on the charts for over two years. The history behind Boyz II Men Evolution Full Album Zip starts with an idea that would soon change pop music forever. In 1988, Michael Lachance and Nathan Moore were enjoying a dinner at a Beverly Hills restaurant with Donald Petrie, nephew of the Motown Records founder Berry Gordy. Lachance and Petrie were discussing business ideas, when Moore jumped in with one of his own. "I have an idea for a new group," he told his companions. "I'm going to call it Boyz II Men." The idea was so good that they all agreed to give it a shot. They formed the group with Nathan Morris on vocals, Michael McCary on lead guitar, Waseem Stewart on bass guitar and Allen Jones on drums. However, the quartet needed a lead singer. They asked Les Dennis to audition, but he was disappointed when he found out they were not looking for another female singer. He eventually passed on them until they called his wife, Jill Schoonmaker, who was in Los Angeles recording sessions with Dennis himself. The group was in dire need of a new lead singer and Schoonmaker auditioned for the group with her husband in New York City in 1989. Boyz II Men Evolution Full Album Zip reached number one on the Billboard 200 chart during its first week of sales. The album spent six consecutive weeks at number one, selling 10 million copies in its first two years of release and staying on the charts for over two years. The album was certified ten times platinum (over ten million units sold) in June 1993. The album won the group four Grammy Awards including one for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals for "End of the Road". AllMusic gave the album four and a half out of five stars, "the group's best selling work, it ranks amongst their best efforts." The review called it "solid exuberant pop soul with an irresistible hooky groove." The album has received so much praise that it was ranked number 501 in Rolling Stone's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. The group made a number of changes to the album for its re-release in 2000. They included a new song entitled "Something About Boyz II Men" on the album. In addition, they reworked all of the songs from their debut album, Boyz II Men Evolution Full Album Zip, adding female back-up singers and omitting some more of their popular radio hits from the original recording. All tracks written and composed by Nathan Morris (c) (Heart), Waseem Stewart (c) (CCM), Allen Jones, Michael McCary and Donald Petrie Credits adapted from AllMusic. 8eeb4e9f32 31
